Born and raised in Green Bay, WI Jeff had a love for music at an early age. Throughout his middle school and high school years he learned piano, trombone, drums, and guitar. Through playing different instruments Jeff fell in love with the ability to use music as a means of emotional expression, which ignited a passion to continually learn the language of music and music composition.

With a strong desire to score films, Kurtenacker graduated with honors from Lawrence University (Appleton, WI) with a self-designed degree combining the music composition degree with recording studio technology. Afterwards he moved to Los Angeles to further his music education by attending UCLA Extension Film Scoring program. While attending UCLA Extension he got a job at Media Ventures/Remote Control (Hans Zimmer’s company). Getting an inside look at one of the most sought after film composers working today was inspiring and sobering. Jeff honed the craft of composing for media, and eventually got an opportunity to be a choral arranger on Warcraft 3 for Blizzard Entertainment.

Jeff continued to work in the video game industry – working on titles such as World of Warcraft, Pirates of the Burning Sea, Dreamworks’ Igor, Assault Heroes 2, American Idol, Cate West, and many more.

In 2008 Jeff joined Carbine Studios as a sound designer, and moved into the Lead Composer role in 2011, and ultimately the Audio Manager role in 2014. Over the years working at Carbine, he has written over 12 hours of music various games and prototypes, and much the score for WildStar was composed, orchestrated, and conducted by Kurtenacker. Leading a 75-piece orchestra of LA’s finest musicians, recording in famed studios such as Eastwood Scoring Stage at Warner Bros. and the Barbra Streisand Scoring Stage at Sony, the WildStar soundtrack came to life over years of multiple recording sessions - and ultimately released with around 8 hours of music in the shipped version of the game in 2014.

Currently Jeff is a freelance composer making musical magic for a wide variety of exciting projects - from games to film to pop music production, and getting to work with some of the top entertainment companies in the industry.

Jeff lives in Southern California with his wife and two kids.
